Apron Obession

{via Ice Milk Aprons}
Some of my favorite memories growing up are of cooking with my mom.  She's an excellent cook.  Hailing from a long line of good gourmets, my mom could make the only two ingredients left in a cupboard into a five course meal.  Often times, she did just that-- especially when we were growing up and didn't have much in the lines of a "cushion" in terms of the finances.  My mom is truly talented in the culinary arts world.  She's the type to grow her own herbs, to use real butter in all her recipes, and the type who never uses measuring cups yet everything seems to be miraculously perfect when all is baked and done.  You know the type I'm talking about, I'm sure.

Funny then, that I was recalling these memories over the Christmas vacation when we were all in charge of cooking a meal each night that we were together (think of it like "Top Chef: Family Style."  It was so much fun, and I highly recommend you do it with your family or friends!).  I stumbled upon these aprons in a magazine and instantly fell in love.  I remember being so excited as a little girl to put on my mom's apron and wrap the tie around my tiny waist ten million times.  These aprons by Ice Milk remind me of the grace my mom always had while she cooked and the elegance that I still admire about her today.

Now, which one to order AND which one to stock in the future coffee shop are the essential questions!

Bobbette and Belle

I came across a beautiful storefront in Leslieville, Ontario, a neighborhood just outside of Toronto.  What a lovely pastry boutique-- truly charming and a place I'd love to see!  I love the decor, the "open" and bright feel to the store, and the look of their delicious confections, of course.  Follow their blog here.

It's Complicated, but I'm Officially in Love

I laughed out loud and fell in love all at the same time this weekend when I watched "It's Complicated".  Meryl Streep was amazing (as usual) and I'm now in complete infatuation with her house, her garden, and her bakery from the film!

Soooooo gorgeous!

White marble island... I'm in love...
Don't you just want to be there, laughing with the ladies?

Love the wide-open *loft* feel of this bakery

When Fashion Meets Food: Roberto Cavalli's Caffe Giacosa

It doesn't happen very often (unless you're Lady Gaga dawning meat couture and fishnets), but Robert Cavalli has done it with Caffe Giacosa.

Nestled in his home town of Florence, Italy, Cavalli took his passion for fashion and deliciously combined it with the most glorious of all things: il dolci italiani.

Caffe Giacosa has a tremendous history. Originally it was the official chocolatier to the Italian royal family, and posh tea room for the wealthy elite of the Florentine society in the 1800s. Just a few years ago, Cavalli took on the challenge of restoring the building and cafe to its original prestige, with his own twist of course:

I love this packaging:

Interior Fetish: Extraordinary Desserts

I'm in love with the interior space of Extraordinary Desserts in the Little Italy section of San Diego, California:

The high ceilings and open space is a "true loft" feel, with high ceilings and exposed ceiling beams. Th zen-inspired decoration adds a much needed warmth to this restaurant and bakery. My favorite detail is this custom wood wall. I love the way the light plays through the circles:

Love it!

When the Spice Loft opens, I hope it turns out as beautiful and inspiring as this Extraordinary Desserts location.

The Naked Chocolate Cafe

Have any of you Philly foodies out there ever been to the Naked Chocolate Cafe? Do tell!

I'm dying to go-- everything looks so delicious, and their reviews are amazing!

Super thick hot chocolate... the best and only way to drink hot chocolate. It's like drinking hot chocolate pudding...

The Cafe was recently featured on the "Unwrapped"series by the Food Network.

And now that I'm on the topic of "Unwrapped"... I can't watch that show without having flashbacks to the early 90's when Marc Summers hosted "Double Dare" on Nickelodeon!

I *LOVED* that show!
